SHe-Box Registration – Complete Guide for Employers

The Sexual Harassment Electronic Box (SHe-Box) is a centralised online portal developed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India to strengthen implementation of the POSH Act, 2013.

With increased regulatory focus, judicial observations, and state-level advisories, SHe-Box registration is fast becoming a standard compliance expectation for organisations employing 10 or more employees.

This guide explains what SHe-Box is, who must register, why it matters, and how to complete registration step-by-step, supported by official portal screenshots.

What is the SHe-Box Portal?

SHe-Box is a single-window digital platform that enables women employees—across public and private sectors, organised and unorganised—to file complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace under the POSH Act, 2013.

The portal was originally launched in 2017 and underwent a major relaunch on 29 August 2024, introducing:

  • Mandatory IC onboarding architecture
  • Enhanced monitoring by authorities
  • Centralised reporting and tracking

Why SHe-Box is Important

The portal is designed to:

  • Act as a national repository of all Internal Committees (ICs) and Local Committees (LCs)
  • Enable online filing and routing of complaints
  • Maintain strict confidentiality
  • Allow authorities to monitor compliance and complaint trends
  • Facilitate annual reports, training records, and IC oversight

Important: SHe-Box does not replace existing POSH compliances.
It operates in addition to policy drafting, IC constitution, annual reports, and disclosures under the POSH Act.

Who Needs to Register on SHe-Box?

Under the POSH Act:

  • Organisations with 10 or more employees must constitute an Internal Committee (IC)
  • Smaller establishments or cases against the employer are handled by Local Committees (LCs)

While a single pan-India mandate is still evolving, multiple authorities, regulators, and district administrations have already:

  • Directed or strongly encouraged registration
  • Fixed deadlines at district / sector level
  • Linked SHe-Box onboarding with enforcement actions

Courts have also emphasised transparency and digitisation of IC details.

How SHe-Box Registration Works (Overview)

Registration happens in three structured stages:

Stage 1: Head Office & Nodal Officer Registration

  • Only the Head Office registers initially
  • A Nodal Officer is appointed
  • Details are verified by the District Nodal Officer (DNO)

Stage 2: Branches & Internal Committee Registration

  • Login credentials are issued post-verification
  • Branch offices and IC members are added
  • Chairperson (Presiding Officer) account is created

Stage 3: Presiding Officer (Chairperson) Login

  • Presiding Officer receives a separate login
  • Enables monitoring of complaints filed via SHe-Box

Who is the Nodal Officer (Critical Point)

The Nodal Officer is the organisation’s designated portal administrator responsible for:

  • Registration on SHe-Box
  • Managing portal data
  • Coordinating complaints with the IC

⚠️ Important Technical Restriction

  • The Nodal Officer cannot be the Presiding Officer or an IC Member
  • The portal does not allow dual roles under one login
